Since I last posted, sometime in May but seemingly 10 years ago, my family and I have relocated to Washington DC to take a new job.
I’m now the director of communications for the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (aka, AASHTO). You can follow us on Twitter at @aashtospeaks, mostly because someone in Europe has a last name with multiple A’s and took @AASHTO before my new colleagues could get their hands on it. You also can continue to follow my tweets at @lloydbrown.
AASHTO is an interesting place to work and in the first two weeks here I feel very comfortable. The slogan here is “The Voice of Transportation” and all of you who know me can probably guess at how I enjoy being the voice of something. I’ve been doing it for so very long. My professional focus is shifting from a statewide perspective on the media, to one that is much broader. I’m looking forward to parsing national media analysis as transportation infrastructure investment becomes an important topic in the coming months.
There is much more to update and share in regard to the transition and the new surroundings. Some stories of cross-country driving, and on getting settled in a new city. I’ll save those for now. We are expecting to have an Internet connection at the apartment over the weekend, and that will give me more time to work on the blog, and get ready for another semester at Gonzaga University.
Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer wherever you are. Jake, Stephanie and I are certainly enjoying the adventure underway here in the Washington DC area.
